RB26 gtr box to rwd.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, looking to buy a rb26 box and get it converted to rwd for my Laurel skid car..

I know there a bit cheaper than 25 boxes, but once there 'cut n shut' to be just RWD, are there as strong/stronger than a 25 box?

also who and how much is it to get done?

I can alloy weld so was thinking bout stripping it down and doing it myself.. But id rather leave it to the box experts..

and tips etc much appreciated.

find a smashed R33 gtst box and use the output shaft, selectors and rear half of the case ;)

they aren't any stronger

Pretty much, depends how old/maintenance and if it's been street driven gently or had a tonne of 4wd launches.

Other than that gearset size etc is relatively on par

same gearset as rb25 so same strength there.

more bearings down the shaft compared to 25 box so more strength there.

im looking at doing mine as its an easy job just time the time and the welding is the harder part.

it doesnt need to be welded for pressure just to hold the oil in.

I've been looking at doin this also. Is there anything tricky or it's basically cut the transfer case off and weld plate over it then the usual rb25 convo stuff?

Not so easy to get a smashed 25 box cheap though. By the time you have bought a mashed 25 box and gtr box your approaching the cost of a good 25 box.

^^Not wrong there Christian.

Hence why im changing to 25 case. I should post up a pic of my engine and box together, looks so wrong, gearbox is twice the size of the baby SR lol

Good if you want an extra meter of box under your car..

nothing wrong with a big box ;)

26 box is bigger, I had to bash my tunnel to fit it, the rear of the box also needs to get cleaned out so it becomes a bigger litre gearbox also.. my conversion only costed me 150 bux.. got welded but have had no leaks!! and looks clean as! Jack I can get it done for you no issue.

btw I hear more of 25 boxes blowing than 26s :)
